Drivers at the transport and security services departments of the refinery have undergone training on defensive driving in view of the approaching Christmas season.
The Public Affairs Manager, Mrs. Aba Lokko, opening the day’s training urged the drivers to be patient, anticipate others’ mistakes and exhibit professionalism by observing and adhering to road traffic regulations to avoid any driving errors.
The training was aimed at enhancing the knowledge and risk competencies of drivers to improve their conducts on the road.
The Safety Manager, Mr. John Mantford, taking the participants through the session, noted that drivers are at the centre of road safety. He revealed that road accident statistics in Ghana indicates that driver error contributes largely to the causes of road accidents.
He stated that overtime, drivers portray impatience on roads leading to over-speeding, wrongful overtaking, fatigue and disrespect for the traffic laws. He observed that drivers are professionals and need to exhibit professionalism in the work at all times.
He therefore called on drivers to make conscious efforts to apply themselves to the knowledge acquired in defensive and responsible driving.
The training, an initiative by the safety department, is expected to be held annually.
