TOR Union Executives & Shop Stewards Receive Training

The executives of the two union groups and departmental shop stewards at the refinery have been trained on industrial relations and labour law intended to improve upon industrial relations at the workplace.

Mr. Kwasi Danso Acheampong, a legal practitioner and consultant, facilitating the two-day training, provided a clear understanding on industrial relations and explained the role, impact and future of the labour law. He said that the basic principle of the law is to protect the weaker party within an unequal contractual relationship.

Mr. Acheampong tracing the history and emergence of trade unionism in Ghana, hinted that the law is a good one which generally raises the bar of employment relations and human resource practices.

The training provided the platform for participants to discuss issues relating to interest-based negotiations, employer-employee relationship and management settlement of industrial disputes.

The programme, the first of its kind organized by TOR, is expected to strengthen labour-management cooperation and enhance productivity at the workplace.
